Doesn't seem like Israel, Iran, Lebanon, Hezbollah, nor Hamas has the moral high ground in all this.

in many ways, this has been going on for years and years --- not just months.

They all indiscriminately kill innocent people to get at the other, without any self-reflection on their own bad actions.   If they don't kill, they oppress.

What a mess.

They all try and one up the other. Iran did this mostly just to save face that they are "serious".

Diplomacy doesn't work when you have a potato sitting president and a cackling vp who's afraid to take a stand

Biden really should be taking a leadership role in trying to deescalate, but not sure if he is mentally capable of doing this.

Harris is too politically afraid to say anything.  She is worried about angering certain democrats who hate Israel, and also worried about angering Muslims in swing states.

Israel reportedly launched a ground invasion of Lebanon today, which might have played a part.

Between Russia / Ukraine, and now the middle east, there are too many ground invasions and missiles flying right now.

The president of the US has control of everything and should get all the blame and credit.  Where have you been?

President Biden is the "leader of the free world".

The United States has a lot of influence over things, as we have (1) the largest military in the world, and (2) the largest economy in the world ---economic sanctions are a real weapon.

This isn't about "waiving a magic wand".   It is about stepping up as the leader of the free world, and trying to ratchet down things from a massive war in the middle east.   Do you want another war?  Me neither.

We have a lot of sway over what Israel does.  Or maybe I have that part reversed.

This.  People here are worse than Trump, speculating that he unleashes hurricanes and shit.

Biden didn’t cause Netanyahu to become a corrupt madman who stocked his cabinet with biblical, racist warmongers; nor did he  appease Hezbollah.  Shit’s been raging for decades.

He could be, it's not tapioca yogurt cup + nap time at the White House yet. (Sorry, I had to throw one ageist joke in). In all seriousness, I am sure he is working behind the scenes to help resolve this best he can.

Maybe he has to do something other than politely ask people to stop.  Use the tools the US has at its disposal to influence the outcome we prefer.

We spend a lot of money in the middle east.

Israel Defies A Nervous Biden Administration

Despite US calls to avert a ground offensive in Lebanon, Israel has begun "targeted" raids on the country -- more proof that Washington has been unable to rein in its ally, amid fears of a wider Middle East conflict.

The US president indicated Monday that he was opposed to Israeli ground operations in Lebanon, calling for a ceasefire as tensions spiralled after the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

And the Israeli military confirmed early Tuesday that it had indeed launched "ground raids" on villages in southern Lebanon.

It felt like deja vu all over again.

Every time the United States calls for a negotiated solution or a ceasefire, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems to respond by ramping up his military offensive

Can really trace the whole Iran mess back to the 50s when we got assbent over the nationalization of Iran’s oil. The CIA coup caused a lot of hurt feelers…people forget that Iran under the Shah and Israel were quite close.

I guess we should have shot Khomeini in Paris too. Might have helped.

Maybe your beef is with fellow Americans.  Harris could lose by 200 electoral votes if she decides to throw Israel under the bus and stop funding their military completely (which is what we’d have to do to stop Israel from defending its borders).

And, what would that diplomacy entail?  Would it involve time travel back before Israel's precipitating actions?  That's probably the only thing that would work.  What words would a presidential candidate w/very limited powers to influence use to quell the conflict?

Frankly I understand why they don't like us
