utenation Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 @NorthWestCowboy and @Iam4wyo, Utah is fired up and ready to go. First pre-season home game tonight. They’ve done construction on the Delta Center to make it better for hockey. Construction is also underway for our first class hockey practice/office facilities. It will be done next year. I’m still getting used to the rules and strategies but let’s get a season thread fired up. @UNLV2001 and @SharkTanked Utah’s first and second lines will be playing tonight. 3 Quote
UNLV2001 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Welcome to the NHL - I'm still not up to speed on the nuances of hockey strategy beyond the more obvious aspects , and only really followed NHL since the VGK landed here in 2017 Quote
retrofade Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I'm glad that an own goal goes into the history books as the first goal the "hockey club" scored. Quote
SWspartan Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 San Jose Sharks (NHL) home opener at the Shark Tank, 10/10 vs St. Louis Blues San Jose Barracuda (AHL) home opener at Tech CU Center, 10/19 vs Iowa Wild Quote
Bison Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 There was talk of further NHL expansion but Gary Bettman shut down those rumors. Two or four new teams would have been added over time. Houston was an obvious target and Atlanta was one other target (even after losing two NHL franchises). Quote

Preseason is pretty much a time to see your prospects and AHL guys on the ice. Like the NFL, as it gets closer to season, you will see more of your regular players. I think Utah could be sneaky good this year. Will be interesting to see what happens. Hockey is the most random insane professional sport out there. You really have no idea what is going to happen. Probably the most exciting sport. Quote

Anaheim seems to have that one IMO Quote

I think the Pacific in general will be shit, I don't buy LA, Seattle regressed and will only be as good as Matty Beniers is but he can't do it alone, Calgary not good, Vancouver already has injury issues although I like Lankenen, Anaheim and SJ are bottom of the barrel. That leaves Vegas who always have injury questions and Edmonton who have the 2 best players in the world not much else and will there be a hangover from losing game 7 the way they did. Quote

Really don't think any of the Pacific teams made off-season moves that will be game changers. If anything, Edmonton may have separated themselves from the rest and VGK may have taken a small step back. Seems like the rest just treaded water. Quote

VGk will need guys to step up & fall some holes & stats............think VGK will be in the playoff hunt, but hoe deep they can go is a big question Quote

I like Edmonton adding Jeff Skinner but Kane may be missing for a while although he kind of stinks now , I also don't really trust their goalies over an 82 game season. Everyone has also now had an entire summer to study Kris Knoblach and learn his system so he may be exposed a bit. As far as VGK go obviously they need health first and foremost , they also need Hertl and Stone to have good seasons. Quote
