Antonio Diego Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Drivers who turn on their blinker and immediately merge...which is just a poorly disguised cut-off. The blinker is supposed to give adequate notice of your intention to merge!! Also, turning on your blinker doesn't mean you get the right of way!

That is just as annoying. Very similar to what someone posted prior about going around a slow driver only for them to speed up when they noticed what you're doing. P.s. cutting off someone is never acceptable. It's a hostile merger.

It's a hostile merger. If you live in California, it is a necessary maneuver, damn near nobody will let you in. I miss my old beige 70’s Dodge Coronet I had for a short time (same body as CHP had earlier), when some prick wouldn’t let me in, I slowly merged left, they always backed down.

That's what I do now. I just merged when a safe opportunity is present. Drivers are assholes. We're all trying to get somewhere. And no it's not. it's an asshole maneuver. Two assholes on the road playing this game end up inconveniencing every driver around. I agree that the car type makes a difference. When I drive my sedan, the assholes are more noticeable. They speed up to either not let me in or cut me off. When I'm in our large and powerful looking SUV, they do not do that. I was just sharing how I was driving the SUV and I see an asshole in a newer looking BMW leap frogging around traffic and cutting off some drivers. I was in the fast lane, he got in the no. 2 lane, he approached attempting to overtake me. I maintained my speed. With the cushion I had b/t my vehicle and the one in front of me, and he had sufficient space to attempt to cut me off. He looked in his side rear view mirror and clearly changed his mind when he noticed the large front end of the SUV. I did step on the gas a little just to make the engine roar. I think that warning helped change his mind too. lol. 1

Let me be clear, I do not speed up to prevent someone from passing. I am old school, travel in the right lane unless passing. When I see assholes approaching from the rear, I do my best to get out of the way (another gripe, tailgaters). Let them tailgate the vehicles in front of me. When I am overtaking a Semi and asshole starts tailgating me, I turn on my blinker to let them know once I clear, I am merging over and they will be able to pass me soon. It seems to calm the assholes, at least for a moment. If you don’t perform the blinker and immediate lane change in California, you will be banished to the right lane for 100 miles.

If that was the case, I would have pressed on the pedal the moment he was approaching in his lane. I kept the cushion between my vehicle and the one in front. I merely pressed just enough for him to hear the roar of the engine when I noticed he kept looking in his side view mirror. Cutting me off would not have helped him as based on the speed and distance of the car in front of me. He would have been stuck next to the car he was tailgating. Luckily, he was sensible. And stop with the snobby boomer attitude. P.s. to clarify my prior reply, I wasn't saying you're an asshole. I was referring to cutting off being an asshole in itself. 1

Orange Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Why the fuck does our society require that cars dominate transportation? Why can’t we prioritize biking and walking? Do we LIKE insanely hot summers, Cat 5 hurricanes and rising seas, along with enormous parking lots and highways destroying quality of life in poor neighborhoods (and elsewhere)? Why did we create this terrible fucking hellscape? We know it can be done better. Other places have shown us. Holy shit. A better world is possible. 1 1

Because cars are the superior transportation vehicles. We have token streets like that all over America

I tow a lot of trailers and when someone doesn't want to let me in, I'll do a bit of trailer whip and they usually back way off. Works in every city I drive in. 1 1

Works in every city I drive in. Down here we call it the Miami wiggle. When towing the skiff and cars won’t let you in, just get that sway going back and forth and cars back off instantly.
