I can’t tell you how many times I’d call a cab and they never show up. Too busy and they only take the business that makes them the most money. Uh, it’s because of Uber and Lyft that the cabs don’t show up. They hardly exist anymore.

Oh, you mean this part that totally supports your cause? federal-stimulus funding to bailing out owner-drivers, but the funding has yet to be formally legislated. Bhairavi Desai, of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, says the proposed amount is far too little to actually rescue them — and is essentially a cash infusion for lenders that will leave drivers permanently indentured
mysfit Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 The workers in this country could bring the top 5% and businesses to their knees if they organized as one unit and went on à nationwide strike. It would hurt but it would hurt the rich a helluva lot more. A reminder of the power of the other 97% and a rebalancing. It's the only way I can think of getting the message across and having the leverage for real change. That said I use Uber once a month for an eye appointment where I get 1 eye dilated and stuff injected into it making it impossible for me to drive. Completely destroys my depth perception.

Big tech always tries to pretend its “innovations” will save the planet (see Elon Musk 5 years ago), but all they’re there for is to make a handful of people dumptrucks full of cash. Abolish rideshare and invest $1 trillion in public transportation (high speed rail, busses, subways) all across the country. Connect mid-size cities all over the place and invest in electric busses that are free and have stops every 10 minutes. Tear up the asphalt and throw in rail lines. That’s how you make a transportation revolution in a country. Not EVs and bullshit rideshare scams. Our economy and transportation infrastructure needs to be redesigned from the ground up. American independence and the lack of population density makes public transportatín a difficult lift. There is a lot of ground to cover when you consider suburbs and it gets worse in areas where people commute an hour out to find affordable housing. Which brings in a whole other problem which really should be part of the equation of a major fix.

It’s not a totally unfixable problem though. We have to start fixing it now. 1
