“The high school had received an earlier phone threat, multiple law enforcement officials told CNN. The phone call Wednesday morning warned there would be shootings at five schools, and that Apalachee would be the first. It is not known who placed the call.”

The two above statements are mutually exclusive. The people described in the bottom statement are by definition reactionaries, not moderates.

Making such silly conclusions as you did, above, might make you feel better, but it accomplishes nothing. I can call you a 'reactionary' or attempt to shame you for your opinion, but you won't give a shit. They don't give a shit about yours either. So we haven't moved an inch, and there lies the problem.

It's actually pretty simple, but I will break it down so your compromised intellect can understand.

If you want firearms banned, then you should be willing to go door to door and take them. If you, yourself aren't willing to do it, then shut the hell up. See? Pretty damn simple.

Do you own an assault rifle?

The problem lies in you not having a dictionary?

What’s an assault rifle?

And that’s the other problem for most pushing more gun laws. They do not have a basic understanding of guns and it shows when those people talk about the issue.

...The great majority of gun related deaths in the US are handguns and those are certainly not getting banned.

yes, but handguns are not the weapon of choice for most mass shootings

If the goal is to prevent mass shootings, sure. I always thought it was to reduce as many gun related deaths as possible but I could Be wrong.

that would be nice but it's not gonna happen

let's do what what we can to reduce the number of mass casualties...I think that's possible

It is easy...just do a buyback.  If people don't participate...fine....nobody is kicking in any doors.  But if that illegal gun ever falls into the wrong hands and is used in a crime the owner also gets a LONG prison sentence.

Buy backs could take some guns off peoples hands - But not enough

Perhaps gun owners need to carry liability insurance for their guns -- if they are used in some heinous way or get stolen when not locked up & used in some fashion against people or a business then the gun owner can be sued for damages ........make it similar to car insurance

Insurance doesn't bring people back to life.  Unlike cars, there is no reason to have assault rifles other than mass death.   We cannot insure against using the product as intended.   If an illegal assault weapon causes death the owner and user need to be put in jail for a long time.

I am sick of all these owners getting off when their guns kill innocents.  If you want illegal weapons you can assume the liability of a potentially long prison sentence without anyone bailing you out if someone else uses it to commit a crime or a kid kills themselves.

That type of potential accountability will get a lot of owner to participate in a buyback.

I can't think of any other country in the world that allows assault weapons in general circulation.

Why are you so hell bent on punishing people who've done absolutely nothing wrong? There is no such thing as absolute safety, you know that. But in your quest for the unobtainable, you have no problem trampling on innocent people's rights.

Hey brother, it isn't you it's the guns.  I wouldn't want you storing weapons grade plutonium at you house either even if you aren't a felon.  Some items are just too dangerous to give everyone with a pulse access on demand.
