One that doesn't get enough love that I think is amazing is Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. How that ever got there still boggles my mind. Just the sheer size of that gigantic pile of sand is something you have to see to believe. Love that place. It's deceptively hard to hike through it. Took this pic a few years ago: 1

Each step forward is at least half a step back after you sink into the sand. Tough hike, but well worth it. 1

stanfordchef Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Not an American one but Tayrona National Park in Colombia might be the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. 1

That's a Joe type scene if there was one. Absolutely surreal. Not much to "do" which is why it is so lightly visited but if you just want to take in an other worldly landscape and star watch...can't imagine much else better. Be a hell of a place to have a mescaline adventure 1 1

Some of the other lesser known CA ones are great too like Lassen, Pinnacles and even Redwood. love Yosemite but it’s too crowded anymore Would love to make it out to the Utah NPs at some point. Yosemite is 1,200 sq miles but over 90% of visitors stay crowded in the 2 sq miles of the Yosemite Valley area. There are still many areas outside the Valley that are easy to reach but rarely visited. I have a preference for Sequoia/Kings Canyon. The majority of tourists only visit Giant Forest and Grant Grove leaving many quiet areas for the rest of us. My wife grew up frequently visiting Pinnacles in the 1960s before it was a national park. Now that it is a national park it is "discovered" and crowded on weekends, hour or longer waits in line at the entrances many weekends. 2

Be a hell of a place to have a mescaline adventure Yeah. A couple of times I’ve stopped there driving from Montana to California. It’s wildly surreal. Def a great mescaline spot too. I love the rugged areas of Eastern Idaho. Those mountains near 15 by the Utah border are especially incredible. Especially in the spring when all the wildflowers are in full bloom. 1

And sailing on that glassy water is intoxicating in itself. 1

I'll put it on the list. My favorite water spot in the USA is Lake of the Ozarks. Been there? This place reminds me of your pics with water surrounded by lush green walls/mountains. Big boy mansions right on the water, everyone has a cruiser, a powerboat and jet skis on their private dock. Some big celebs hang out here. I think the Bush family has a place here. Restaurants and bars right in the middle of the lake. I might retire here. 1

Hard to beat southern Utah with the 1-2 punch Zion and Bryce give you. These are from a recent camping trip. Outside the parks, but looking north towards Zion. 1
