St Augustine is an awesome town though. Always have loved that spot.

That fort is awesome.

Will say it’s super weird being in SF after being in a hotbox for a week straight. It’s super foggy and may hit only 65 today. I’ll def take it over whatever satanic level temps they have out in the valley or elsewhere right now.

Yeah it is. I could still spend hours walking around in it even after being there several times. Totally awesome place. The old city itself is super cool too. Reminds me of old town Cartagena, Colombia. Plus they have great beaches in that town/area too.

Yeah, I had a great time there. Another favorite is Myrtle Beach. It helped that one of my former employers was based in Greensboro, NC. I've traveled to so many cool southern cities on their dime to manager meetings. 100% the best parties ever.

Sometime, I'll have to tell you about my near death parasailing accident in Florida or my trip to Tunica, Miss where I was paired up with a boat captain that actually called himself "Dawg" and had that in his business propaganda/materials.

I do need to get out of country more though. On the list.

idk man. 116 sucks a lot more than 105 for me. more things burn you when you touch em, the asphalt is noticeably softer, and sweating through my shirt happens like twice as quick.

All true. But it's what I tell myself to get through summer, as I spend the majority of my work day outside.

Is Vegas going with the 120 degrees yesterday just for the effect? Some of the surrounding areas were 5-6 degrees different from the airport. There has been multiple links posted by myself and others explaining why the Harry Reid Airport can have ambient air temperatures 10+ degrees higher than some surrounding areas. 25 miles away in Boulder City yesterday, it was 115. Still hot, and why I couldn't live there. Some areas on the West Side of Vegas were 5-7 degrees different than the airport.

Remember when it was 114 in June this year and the OMG started? I posted 100 years of temperature data for Vegas, and the temperature hit 115 in June 1954.

I'll post another link, just because.

From the NWS

For some reason they like to use airports. All that concentrated concrete has got to be a bit hotter.

Think it’s because that’s where most of the weather stations are located.

That makes sense except not every town has an airport. However, every town has some kind of city/town center. They should use that for better comparisons.

I think some areas of country or the world for that matter need to reevaluate where ambient air temperatures are taken. Not just the airport. Especially major cities with heat island effect. IMO, It can be misleading.

Yup.

three degrees over the record. Insanity. I blame @azgreg

I was climbing Lone Mtn. at 4:44 when it hit 120. It was more like 118 where I was at. I’ve been doing a run or LM hike every day around 4:30 since May, so my body is acclimated to the heat stress. I grew up not far from Death Valley and I know the danger and how to prevent heat stroke in these conditions.

I didn't realize all humans in a major metropolitan area live at the airport.

If they have always used airport as official temp ( which I believe they do here in SLC ), then continuing to use it seems practical to get relative temp for each day vs. other years.

Read the link from the NWS I posted. Just a few miles away from the airport can be several degrees different. There's a lot at play at the airport.
