88F° here now.  Just perfect.  But, headed to 10+ days of 100F°+ forecasted w/109 as a high.  Fingers crossed our 28 year old AC survives.  Keep it at 76 during the day/eve and drop it at night to sleep.

The hottest weather I've ever been in was in Palm Springs back in July of 1995. It was 128 degrees and we were working outdoors on a promotion for the Amercian Lung Association. I remember how ironic is was because it was so friggin' hot that we were all struggling just to breathe. 🫠

I love the heat.  Always did my short runs in summer 4-6pm peak heat.   Now, 110F° forecast one day.  Knee still healing, but I'll go out and walk a few miles just for old times sake that day.

I'm 64 and ran 4 miles and walked another in over 100 degree heat today. It was 113 where I'm at (Twentynine Palms, CA visiting my sister) and it's still 101 at 10:25 pm. Hoping for a record 120 degrees on Sunday. It's supposed to tie the local record of 119 degrees, but if it's going to be that hot I say let's add a degree and set a new one.

A friend who is still in the Marine Reserve was stationed there for awhile after graduating from SDSU. He joined the military in order to get GI Bill money for law school. He enlisted in the Marines to prove to himself he was tough enough. The summer he spent at 29 Palms almost killed him.

I ran Cross Country in the central valley, so I had many miles under my belt in triple digits as a young man. But I hate it. I never got used to the heat, and I would pick the cold (which I lived in for years) 10 times out of ten if all other things were equal.

That being said, I was sweating my balls off grilling some sliders yesterday when I posted this. And it was fine. So I guess I've at least gotten used to it.

Just be careful, both of you.

I don't think this applies to you, but a lot of people have moved from the Bay to the inland areas for cost of living and space reasons since COVID. A lot of them moved to the Bay from other parts of country. I don't think it's a coincidence that there have been a few shocking deaths where people thought it was a good idea to go for a run or a hike in this kind of weather. I think a lot of people don't quite understand how the body can react to a 112 degree day, and they don't quite respect it. And that's when they get into trouble.

Like I said, this may not apply to you or @AlpineSummer but it's still worth considering.

The heat is wreaking havoc on the firefighters up battling the Basin Fire. They've had to airlift some to the hospital due to heat  exhaustion.

Is that the one in the hills outside of fresno?

One of my oldest friends was stationed at Lemoore NAS for a few years in the early '80s. I remember visiting in summer, waiting until just before sunset and then running on that hot asphalt in the dark at 105F°.  Jump in the pool when done and grab a beer on ice.

Yeah, up by Pine Flat. There was another one up there right on 180 that they've pretty well taken care of now, fortunately.

We all knew where the most accessible water hoses were on our workout routes in HS and we'd basically schedule our routes to hose each other off during our brief breaks.

That was the only time the football players at my HS respected us nerds, when they saw us doing 3-2-1 intervals in 100-plus degree weather.

The hills are nuts, because they don't get those evening breezes and for whatever reason it gets hot earlier in the day there. Sat like 3000 feet, even if the high is a degree or two lower than the valley, it actually feels hotter.
