He found out about this from a whiskeytuber's Discord. The first four ppl in line were him (#1), the guy he met on Discord who told him about this, and two flippers. The manager and assistant manager had everything in carts behind a counter. Said there was a giant case of Hancocks and several cases of EHT SmB under which all this shit was found - 3 cases of GTS (3 bottles per case), 3 cases of Old Rip 10 (ditto), and a case each of Pappy's 15, 20, and Reserve Rye. In addition there were two bottles of ER17 and one bottle of the Saz 18. The four of them took everything... all at MSRP. I have to believe it was a mistaken delivery? Went over there tonight (autocorrect just changed "there" to "tater" lol) to drink a couple things and he told me, "Pick whatever bottle you want for which I have an extra. Merry Christmas." I was floored. I really don't deserve the friends I have. I had three to choose from: the Thomas H. Handy, the GTS, or the Old Rip 10. Chose the GTS, as I've been wanting to add a high proof well-aged whiskey. While this may not have the 18 years last year's release has, it's still a blend of barrels ranging between 16 years and 15 years 2 months and man... you can really taste the barrel influence (my buddy already had a bottle he had bought at low-secondary early this week that he had already opened). Which one would you have chosen? 🤔 1

Still cheaper than the online stores, you just have to be careful with scammers. 1

My buddy told me about BT's NFC tags just this week after buying his first bottle of '24 GTS from an independent liquor store. Cool feature. I hemmed and hawed before choosing the GTS. I would have been really stoked with the Old Rip as well, but I don't know if I would have appreciated it that much more than the OWA I have given what could be just a couple years' worth of additional aging at the same proof (by contrast, the GTS is approx. twice as old as Stagg). That being said, I did spend some time once I got home last night reading/watching reviews of both... We're going to SxS the '23 and '24 GTS sometime over the next couple weeks... which years do you have? Maybe I can help arrange a sample swap? 🤔 1

The San Diegan Posted December 5 Posted December 5 So @tailingpermit, @Mano, @happycamper, @Slapdad, et al - I finally made Grand Reserve status at TW. This means I get invited to a quasi-quarterly drop and get entered in the 3x (or is it just twice?) lotteries for Pappy's, et al. I just received my first invitation for a drop this weekend. First come first serve, only one bottle per GR member. Below is what's on hand. I plan on arriving early enough to have my pick (read: first dozen or so). Below are my choices, and I would appreciate your respective thoughts. As it is, my primary is the Michter's 10YO rye and my secondary is the Blanton's SFTB. I might switch the two. Tertiary is the CYOB, but more for trade currency than to drink. If fewer GR members show up than there are bottles, then either GR members can circle back through for a second go, or wait until they open up the GR table to the genpop (dealer's choice).

Personally, I would likely do the CYPB, WSB and RHF in that order first, as I think that is probably the best value vs. secondary and also because I have all the other bottles. 1

I gave in and paid $265 for a RHF on a Facebook bourbon group. Weller SiB has the highest secondary value out of the three, prices were insane when it first came out. Secondary is $600, used to be $1200. 1

Right now, latest prices I am seeing on secondary: W12 - $160 CYPB - $360 WSiB - $450 MTBB 2024 - $190 M10R 24D - $290 ETL - $150 Blanton's Gold - $200 RHF - $240 Blanton's SFTB - $240 WFP - $160 W12 - $150 OF10 - $325 These are shipped to door prices I found today on my secondary facebook page. If you are able to get the WSiB or CYPB and want to swap since they are over $100 cheaper retail, I have a M10R 22G. I also have a couple of bottles of MBSR that I bought in 2021. 2

Hadn’t realized Weller SiB had slipped that much, my group had one available for 460. I probably could’ve worked the RHF price down a little bit, but didn’t give a shit. More worried about buying from a reputable member with references, easy to get scammed.
tailingpermit Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Did anyone see that Buffalo Trace gift shop released ETL 100 year the other day? Trying to find the Facebook post, quite the shock.

You guys have shifted my perspective, and I'm now thinking if my buddy can broker an advantageous trade for the WSiB I'll probably pick that up instead. I mean, even if I just straight swap it for one of the more expensive (SRP) bottles I want to drink, it still saves me $100 or so (and that's more whiskey 😀). 1

The San Diegan Posted Saturday at 06:58 PM Posted Saturday at 06:58 PM So today was a litmus test. I don't mind waking up at 0430 (bullshit. I much rather be sleeping) but this was the first time I've done it to go stand in line outside a liquor store four hours before they opened. Wasn't sure what to expect. Ended up meeting a cool cat I'll likely end up sharing whiskey with in the near future, and the time passed much faster than I had thought it might. Comfy-ass chair from Costco didn't hurt, either. But on to more important things - the Gear Report. 😀 Aztecs well-repped, with several other people wearing lids. But other than that, nada. Anyway, I was 35th in line when I got there , but some unseen fuckery right before open slipped me to the mid-40s. The last bottle of WSiB walked out three people in front of me, and I grabbed the last CYPB, which was not easy to do considering I was also staring at the last M10 rye. Some last-minute M10 bourbon made the drop as well. Other than the Old Fitz, there was plenty of everything left. My bourbon sherpa buddy is going to broker and handle the trade of the CYPB - at a minimum, if push comes to shove I'll be lateraling to a M10 rye (my initial first choice) at 40% of SRP. 1 1
