One of my favorite OT Board threads from the Titanic MWCBoard was the Whisk(e)y thread, so I packed it up and shipped it over here. Other vices had their moments, but whisk(e)y ran the show. I'm looking forward to the Frey Ranch Wolf Pack Bourbon that's coming out soon. I'm a fan of Frey Ranch anyway and I like seeing the Pack teaming up with them. What bourbon/whiskey/scotch are y'all drinking/collecting?

Also, last week's Friday Night Flights was a barrel proof, non-BTAC lineup from Buffalo Trace. In order, scaling the proof ladder - Blanton's Straight From the Barrel, Col. E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof (Batch 10, 2021), and the legendary Stagg Jr Batch 9 (from winter 2017). I cannot recall having a flight that was as memorable as these three. Tagging @tailingpermit.

I spent a week in Bokeelia tarpon fishing, the weather was god awful as we got 17 inches of rain in 3 days. Anyhow, there’s a liquor store that’s pretty low key and I’ve grabbed some decent bottles there in the past. I chatted up one of the workers about some Michters 10 and he looked up in the computer that they did not have it as he told me the owner has moved all the good stuff to the back for locals. This is where I start licking my lips trying to find out their inventory. My guide is a local and I was going to send him in to investigate and grab me something. That was until the employee bragged that they sold a Double Eagle Very Rare the week before, so I just had to ask at what price? $10k, MSRP is $2k - they did have an ER17 in the back but wanted $1700, MSRP $125. So that officially ended that hopeful opportunity, I did however grab a Smoke Wagon store pick.

Smoke Wagon is another great Nevada bourbon. I picked one up a few weeks along with a Blanton’s at a local store that just got robbed and the neighborhood is rallying around them. I’m convinced it’s a sham to drive sales, but I’ll play along.

They just started distributing in Florida, would have a friend send me bottles of unfiltered & uncut before then. Good stuff!

I think I mentioned this on the "old" Vice thread, but one of the most memorable whiskies I've had this year is their Farm Strength Uncut barrel proof expression. It had a true sense of terroir - it was like you were drinking their farm.

So two quick things - first, last night Friday Night Flights' lineup, in the order they were poured:

IMG-1574.jpg

The W12 (bottled last May) has opened up nicely. The nose on the WA107 when first cracked was insane - just like Froot Loops. While the palette on the FP had more to offer, that nose on the 107 just made the overall experience a little better for me.

That's my Glencairn wearing the wax off last week's Blanton's STFB.

Speaking of which, last week's flight was so memorable it still sits on my mind. In particular, the EHT BP Batch 10 was so fucking incredible it resulted in this illustration, made that night as I was still drooling from having some in my mouthhole. The nose alone made my nostrils feel like they were getting porn fucked by one of those Japanese squid tentacle porn things, the juice itself made me drool like Princess Drool from Drawn Together, and that finish had such goddamn legs that minutes after it left my mouthhole it kept screaming, "WHO'S GONNA CARRY THE BOAT?!?" I present to you EHT BP, Batch 10:

Our Weller distribution here in Florida is fucked, ABC has all rights to it and puts all of it in the vault system. I refuse to shop at ABC, the vault system they have is a total sham.

Antique is my go to and the only bottle I’ll pay secondary for.

Picked up the local liquor stores barrel pick. My next door neighbor picked up the same thing but a different bottle from a different local liquor store.

Very tasty.  Fun to compare the two.  They are noticeably the sane bourbon and distinct.  Almost like the same malt with a slightly different hop mix.

I asked this question on the other board. But Im  not going back to check the answers. so I’ll ask it again.

This year I’ve had a nice run of trying different Scotches. But time to shift gears.  Going with a bourbon next and will be going to either TW or Costco.  Might grab either a Frey Ranch or High West.  But would appreciate other recommendations.

Where do you live? I can give you a bunch of recommendations but the only "we have liquor" Costco I've been to lately has been the one in Scottsdale that's somewhat famous for its whiskey selection.

Next time you're there you could take a picture of what they have and let us point out what looks best

Perfect, I live in Phoenix. Is that the North Scottsdale location on Hayden?

Yep. It rules. If they still have some Angel's Envy bourbon for 35 bucks just pick up a bottle of that to start. Smooth, good taste, nothing too wild. A great entry bourbon.
