AlpineSummer Posted June 14 Posted June 14 One of my former students posted something this eve about an old country song that led me to putting '70s honky-tonker Gary Stewart on Spotify. 2
AlpineSummer Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 Recalling Buddy Guy is on his last tour in his latter '80s. From '22 w/Mavis Staples. We are going to lose a lot when than gen passes: 3
stanfordchef Posted June 14 Posted June 14 kind of a weird mix myself lately saw Iggy this weekend so on a Stooges kick been into some old hip hop for a bit too and then a friend turned me onto this James McMurty character. dude's a helluva songwriter 1 1
retrofade Posted June 14 Posted June 14 This album turns 25 this year, and this song has been running through my head ever since I found out about it. Yes, it's emo/pop/punk, I don't care. That's my genre and something that I used to play/perform back... well, 20-25 years ago.
SWspartan Posted June 14 Posted June 14 This Gold record was released in 1975 and it holds up great. Head East is still around and touring the Midwest where they hail from (Illinois). They have 15 albums (10 studio & 5 live). 1

SleepingGiantFan Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I'm here in L.A. and I have to stop effing working. Just saw that I missed these guys in concert locally by 2 WEEKS: I LOVE that album! Hell, I should marry it! 2
AlpineSummer Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 Felt like a little mature blues. Javina will always get me in the mood.

Should check it out if they have it again next year. Cruel World had a good lineup this year too but I didn’t make it to that. 1
AlpineSummer Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 Gotdamn there was some good shit on AM country radio in the '70s. @bornontheblue this what you missed by borntoolate. 1 1

This is a now obscure song as it wasn't a fit for commercial drinking and cheating songs. Co-written w/Dicky Betts of the Allman Brothers. The '70s had good stuff. I'm full blown in that decade tonight. 1
stanfordchef Posted June 15 Posted June 15 That era of country was incredible. Music in general kicked ass in those years but this was peak country. Mainstream country is god level unlistenable these days but stuff from that whole AM Gold era really really hits the spot. 3 1

A depraved little swamp town east of Gainesville. His brother was head of the school board for whatever county palatka is in for many years. Gary Nilsson. Kid you not. 1
stanfordchef Posted June 15 Posted June 15 @East Village Poltergeist that’s some real east village shit right there 1
AlpineSummer Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 The last track played this morning on the Open Range show before long running Private Idaho takes over KBSU Saturday. Robert Z. getting down:
