Great read. Looks like UCLA was offered a chance to stay in the PAC12, getting 52 million a year but Oregon said no, that wouldn't work for them. No way could they could in a conference where UCLA got more then they were getting..

To blame any single individual or school is foolhardy.  This kinda bullshit was always inevitable when we allowed greed/capitalism to rule college sports.

They're not "college" sports.  This is just entertainment with slaves doing the work (not counting the precious few who get NIL deals).

This is a bellweather for society as a whole.  ALL our values are determined by our cash worth, day to day, and no one gives a single, solitary fuck about anyone's intrinsic worth.  

Late-stage capitalism's only possible landing spot is to shit on dignity, education or anything else getting in the way of the almighty dollar.

What about the Pac12 non-revenue / Olympic sports? I think it is pretty clear that the experience for all of those athletes is not going to improve with the dissolution of the Pac12. Canzano wrote a decent column about it, which includes good quotes from Chip Kelly and Chris Hill. Maybe we should write to our respective university presidents and demand that the conference stay intact for the non-revenue sports.

My guess is that the non-revenue sports will eventually revert to regional leagues.  Considering the competition and travel (and lack of revenue), there’s no reason for USC and UCLA to leave Southern California for baseball, volleyball, tennis, golf, etc.

I agree it is an awful take, which is why nobody related to Utah (Chris Hill) should be complaining about conference realignment.  Every team that moves believes that they are taking a step up.

lul. They played BYU 8 times since 2011 as a member of the Pac-12, and Wyoming? Seriously? Wyoming is a Utah rival is your argument? Aside from Wyoming stealing Utah's claim as the most rectangular state, nobody gives a fuck about that "rivalry".

Not to mention that Utah has not been in the same conference as Utah State since the early 60's. 

Utah has as much right to voice their views as anyone in this conference.

You are projecting.  I merely pointed out the self-serving hypocrisy of not only Chris Hill's statement (in this instance), but of some Utah fans especially when USC/UCLA announced that they were leaving.  When leaving suited them Utah did it, so why shouldn't anyone else?
