Pendergast really had a nice game plan today! Of course ucla is'nt really known for passing this year, so loading up the box was definantley the best approach...
Guest LeaderofthePac Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Even in Cal's loss to Arizona they held them to only 10 points and one big play all game. If their kicker had made that 40 yard field goal they'd probably be looked at as the #2 team in the conference right now.
Guest NMGB Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Cal fan here. Very happy with the improvement shown by the D. Still, DC Pendergast hasn't yet had to deal with a balanced top offense in conference. Arizona has a talented passing game but weak rushing; Ucla has a talented running game but weak passing. Actually, Nevada had a balanced offense (that night) and the Cal D looked horrendous. SC has run well this year and is obviously passing out of their minds tonight. I hope they have a very emotional victory today in Palo Alto and experience letdown for next week. Other good offenses that have looked somewhat balanced so far are Stanfurd, Oregon, and sometimes Washington (our last 3 games, but all home games) and OSU in Corvallis is always tough. So the Bears have a good D but that "Best D" talk is definitely premature.
Guest utenation Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Utah was ranked 7th in scoring and total defense before we played ISU.. We gave up a few more points and yards than normal tonight but we should still be in the top 12-15 is my guess.. Cal was ranked 29th in scoring defense before tonight.. AZ was ranked 3rd..

After yesterday fwiw: Utah: scoring def #15 (#2 in conference), total defense #10 (#2 in conf.). AZ: scoring def #10 (#1 in Pac), total defense #13 (#2 in Pac) Cal: scoring def #17 (#2 in Pac), total defense #8 (#1 in Pac) i wouldnt say Zona is weak in the running game, they are pretty solid there actually with Grigsby and Antonlin. Perhaps "weak" was not the best way to put it, but so far the 'Cats are ranked 92th in the nation and 8th in the Pac in Rushing Offense.
Guest NMGB Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Updated numbers: BTW, top three offenses. Beat me to it, utenation. The Bears' passing offense (or lack thereof) could be our downfall this year.
Guest beastute Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Just imagine if we had a QB to go with Keenan Allen and our D. You'd think with a QB guru like Tedford he'd be a lot better.
