  1. With the season over it's time to fire up the transfer portal tracker. I'll keep this as up to date as best I can. 2. Sorry but it had to be posted. It has a symmetry to it. Sitting still for 6 years is a long time for a coach as the fans slowly turn.
  3. Figured I'd get started on a long-standing UNLV tradition. What an underwhelming hire.
  4. Where is the NPac media deal? 6 days left ⬅️ until the magic day you clowns were going to have a media deal. This shit couldn't be scripted better if it was a movie. Get your popcorn ready folks. The excuses will be flying fast and furious.
  5. FYI, I posted a thank you letter to you all in OT/Political section. Since some of you don't post there, I decided to let you know, here, as well.
  6. I read somewhere here that some of you invests? I bought some XRP crypto. Great bargain for something that might replace Etherium coin. I got it at $2.50 prt shares. Only bought less an 20 shares. Good or bad investment? TY in advance....right or wrong, doesn't matter just an opinion
  7. To get things started, courtesy of Denver-Lobo posted elsewhere, the pregame presser https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5a7Fkse0Idg&t=1s
  8. Bad omen already. No internet pregame radio. KKOB shut their stream and rights hiolder westwood one playing highlights of great things in the past instead of announcers at the game doing much of any pregame talk.
  9. Figured it's time for a game thread. No idea what to expect, but hopefully USU represents the MW much better than SDSU.
  10. They played Michigan to the buzzer despite not having a starter over 6'6 and playing against two 7-footers. Well done. Tagging MWC as there is no Big Dub tag and I think UCSD would be a good invite for the MWC. It would raise the academic profile of the conference significantly and you could replace Utah St with another squad of five white guys.
  11. CSU up 12-7 early.
  12. Game is scheduled for Tue night at 6:10 PST on Tru TV. This will be the first time the Aztecs have played the Tarheels in 35 years. Heels were 1-6 in quad 1 games; Aztecs were 5-6 IIRC. Opening line is SDSU +4. Hopefully Goon is back and up to speed - upside to losing to Boise in the quarterfinals is it gave us a little more time to rest and get healthy. Go Aztecs!

  14. Since UNLV has been getting repeatedly kicked in the nuts here and in most media outlets these past few weeks, I thought I'd share some good news for us Rebels... The skatin' Rebels are in the ACHA hockey championship! After taking out Liberty tonight, the Rebels will play the winner of Minot State vs Adrian College for the ACHA M1 Championship! 🏒🏆 Go Rebels. One step closer to D1.
  15. Utah State 37 Net Rating New Mexico 41 Net Rating Boise State 45 Net Rating SD State 51 Net Rating Unlv just kidding No way they put Boise in after years of never getting to second base. And Sd state needs a big tournament run, I mean big. Honestly I am ok with 2. Maybe this is partly why the top of our conference is leaving us. Bottom half has to do better.
  16. Both teams have underachieved. The Broncos are the anti road warriors.. Nevada wins this one.
  17. I get why UNR refused [8-players able to play]. However what’s up w/The Juco passing on the NIT? SCREW those Blu Turf’d F’ Wads!!! I’m guessing, after getting Triple-Swept by CSU the lil’ blu burros had the will to live completely beat out o’ them. A real school would have held their heads high & represented the Conf w/pride & brought home a trophyI I hope y’all go back to your militias & get a dose of School Pride before Fall of 2026, when we start competing in a REAL conf. F’ the Blu Burros!!!
  18. CSU has had Boise’s number this year. Will they make it a three-pete?
  19. AF wins series 2-1 over WSU in their one and only MW season GO FALCONS https://x.com/AF_Baseball/status/1901424856886899111?t=8dEyZLu01KnHmduKjAVScQ&s=19
  20. The excitement of Kevin Kruger's firing and what may lie ahead, and the anxiety of so many failed coaches of yesteryear, has got me thinking about how bad our coaches have been since Tark was run out of town. UNLV is basically 1-9 in our hires since then for an 11 percent success rate, obviously the only successful coach in that period being Lon Kruger. But just how bad have we been? I'm not counting the interim coaches who took over mid-season, only the coaches who were hired by the AD. Here is how I would rank the UNLV coaches post-Tark: 1. Lon Kruger: Obviously. He led UNLV to our only NCAA wins outside of Tark, making 1 Sweet 16 and also 1 round of 32, and was a miracle 3 at the buzzer away from another round of 32 appearance. Also won the MW tourney twice and made it to the MW tourney championship game another time. Finished 2nd in the MW regular season twice and 3rd twice, .655 MW regular season record. Got us back into the national rankings as we were ranked in the top 25 for multiple weeks during 3 of his seasons. Regularly beat BYU in the tourney and attendance was extremely solid, in the 12k-ish range and among the top 20 nationally for several of his years as coach. Program was making money and out of the red. Amazingly, by the end of his tenure some wanted him gone as they thought we could do way better. Be careful what you wish for. After Lon, I'm not gonna lie, it's tough. But here is how I would rank the rest of them: 2. Billy Bayno: Elevated UNLV from the trainwreck post-Grg season back to being a solid program. Twice won the MW tourney including the magical 1998 run (one of my best moments as a UNLV fan) as we beat 2 top 25 teams on our way to the MW title. Also won our sole MW regular season title in 2000 (tie) back when Utah and BYU were in the conference. Got us close to being ranked multiple times as we were getting votes in the top 25 in 3 of his seasons, but could never win the big game and get over the hump. Also got blown out in the 1st round in both of his NCAA tourney appearances and left us on probation after an NCAA investigation into Lamar Odom (who never played here but later led Rhode Island to the Sweet 16) and the dentist scandal, which led to UNLV ineligible to play in the MW tourney in 2001. Attendance and interest in the program was good. 3. Charlie Spoonhour: This one is even more difficult because after Lon and Bayno, the pickin's get slim. I would choose Old Man Charlie here because he landed the 3 B's (Beck, Blassingame, Banks) and maintained us as a MW contender, finishing 3rd in MW play and narrowly losing at the very end of the championship game in the MW tournament both of his years (and also in the 3rd year when he quit midway through the season). In the MW Championship game, we lost by 3 to SDSU his first year, by 1 in a heartbreaker to CSU his 2nd year, and by 3 to Utah in what would have been his 3rd year but his son was serving as interim coach after he quit amid massive pressure from Rebel fans yelling "Stick a SPORK in him!!". Spoon came in right after all of our hearts were broken by the Done Deal Dave and Pitino courting, nobody wanted him but he was at least solid, but couldn't handle the pressure at UNLV and only lasted 2 1/2 years. However, we were at least contending in the MW while he was on board. 4. Marvin Menzies: Hear me out here. I was no fan of his either, but look at the coaches below him. Marvin came in as UNLV coach after the MASSIVE clown show of TKM led to UNLV becoming a national embarrassment in the coaching search. He was choice Z and absolutely nobody wanted him so he was in an impossible situation. He also took over a program fresh from being NUKED by Dave Rice and at least stabilized it. He landed some good recruits and improved our record and standing in MW conference each year from 11th to 7th to 4th. His 1-3 record in the MW tourney, his pathetic cupcake schedule, and his embarrassing tantrum and trashing of UNLV on his way out the door are huge negatives, but he did elevate the program from what he inherited. Unbelievable to say but I wouldn't place him any lower on this list. 5. Dave Rice: I know I've called Rice the worst coach in UNLV history many times, but I can't in good conscience put him lower on this list. As I've mentioned a ton, he took a rock-solid program he inherited from Lon Kruger and nuked it. Got progressively worse each year and turned UNLV into a complete shit show. His worshippers will say it was all because he was fired mid-season, but his last 2 1/2 years leading up to his firing were no better than what we've seen since he got canned. However, he had UNLV ranked in the national polls in 2 of his seasons, one short of Lon Kruger, including once in the final AP poll. Led UNLV to two NCAA appearances although they lost in the 1st round both times to lower seeds. Due to his great recruiting (on paper easily the best post-Tark), including several times in the top 10 nationally, UNLV was still a national name and still had good attendance at the Mack during most of his tenure. Beat a lot of top 25 teams also, especially in non conference. His win over #1 ranked North Carolina put UNLV in the national spotlight big time and was one of the most exciting moments of UNLV basketball post-Tark. 6. Kevin Kruger: I don't know if I could put Kevin lower on this list because under his direction the program was pretty much the same every year. 5th, 7th, 4th, 6th. He won a lot of games vs. top 25 teams and his teams never packed it in despite injuries. Last year he had a great run towards the end of the year. But poor play in the MW tourney (2-4 record on our own home court with the only 2 wins being against a pathetic Air Force team) and a few very end of year collapses (his 1st year and 3rd years when we lost the final 2 games of the season in both) were huge sticking points, as was the atrocious lack of excitement and home attendance which has been the worst in UNLV history. 7. TJ Otzelberger: He should be embarrassed and ashamed of what he did at UNLV. Flew in on a helicopter to much hype and a huge contract by UNLV standards, with a foot out the door and openly mailed in his 2nd season. Some of that can be blamed on it being the COVID season but every team had to go through that. TJ did pretty well his first year, improving drastically throughout the year and finishing 2nd in the MW, which was the highest conference finish since Lon Kruger (yes, above any Dave Rice season), but totally and openly mailed in his 2nd season. He is now at a top 10 national team which is a continued slap in the face to UNLV. 8. Tim Grgurich: This will probably ruffle some feathers because Grgurich is such a beloved figure in UNLV history as an assistant coach to Tark. But he basically had a nervous breakdown a few games into his first season and quit on the team, leading to a complete shitshow and coach by committee the rest of the year. Yes, he inherited the huge mess that Rollie left and there was so much more pressure then as all the boosters and fans of the Tark era remained and wanted UNLV to return to that level ASAP, but c'mon. Maybe it's unfair to blame him for collapsing under that pressure but it really put a strain on the already struggling program and set them on a poor trajectory. A big reason Bayno inherited such a mess. 9. Rollie Massimino: Basically did what Rice did (tear a rock solid UNLV program to shreds) in less time. The pro is he had the balls to even try to take over for the legendary Tark, and that's basically the only silver lining you can give this a-hole. In his 1st season, UNLV collapsed at the end of the year, losing 3 of its final 5 games prior to selection Sunday, to become at the time the only top 25 ranked team in NCAA history not to make the NCAA tournament. The next year, total collapse, barely finished above .500 in the Big West conference and wasn't in At Large consideration. Left a huge mess for the next coach that Grg could not overcome and left the program in complete shambles.
  21. Must win for CSU. Let's go Rams!
  22. As some of you know, I began doing standup a couple years ago. Sometime last summer/fall, I wrote a bit about how as a married man, the older you get the more clothes you wear from Costco. Skip ahead a couple months, and I'm listening to an interview with Nick Boyd by Gottleib or some other syndicated sports talk show host on his podcast. When the host asked him how he was spending his NIL money, Nick alluded to saving almost all of it, but spending a little bit on threads. The host jokingly asked him if that meant he was buying clothes at Costco, only for Nick to tell him hell no he doesn't buy clothes at Costco. I cracked up as I immediately thought about my bit, and made a note to myself to tell NIck, given the chance, "not yet young man. Give it time." Well, now skip the fuck ahead to last Saturday. I recently renewed my postgame tradition of greeting players on their way back to the locker room to let them know I appreciate them and to give praise where praise is due. Nick was the last guy off the court after a postgame interview, and after thanking him I welcomed him (belatedly for sure) to San Diego, and then waved him in. He leaned in and I told him, "Hey man - just so you know, the older you get, the more clothes from Costco you wear." And his look - this look: ...Told me he had ZERO recollection of some random conversation he had on a podcast interview 4-5 months ago. In his mind, some random middle-aged white guy just leaned in all conspiratorially-like and randomly told him - "Yo, stranger! Someday, YOU'RE going to wear a lot of clothes from Costco. PEACE!" and just walked off. 🤣 Sorry for the confusion my man. 😀
