Season starts tomorrow. Oregon was picked 6th in the B1G preseason poll, which is higher than I thought we’d be.

Canceling a game against potentially the worst FBS team for a FCS school that might have no business being on the field with Ohio State.

As of now for the MWC there are 2 Programs who will need coaches: -Fresno State -Utah State I personally don't see either Interm Coach being named the new HC. Other coaches who may already be on the Hot Seat/picked up by Power Programs: -Trent Bray -Barry Odom -Jay Sawvel -Timmy Chang Off the top of my head and some rumors ive heard some Coaching Options to replace departures: -Brett Vigen from Montana State -Jason Eck from Idaho -Brennan Marion (UNLV HC Replacement) -Jay Hill (rumored USU new HC target) If anyone has any more concrete knowledge, rumors, trackers for the MWC and the other Western teams (BIG12, PAC etc.) Feel free to add on.

Feels weird calling this a Big Ten rivalry. 11/30 - 4:30 Pacific NBC Washington 6-5 (4-4 in conference Oregon 11-0 (8-0 in conference) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon–Washington_football_rivalry#Game_results Washington has won the last 3.
-
Around this time of year, with all the rivalry games occurring, it's typical to see "house divided" flags. So, question for U of Oregon and Oregon State fans. Does the house divided flag for these houses just feature a platypus???

Boise State moves ahead of BYU and into CFP bye territory - ESPN Boise State has that fourth bye game. Oregon, Miami, and Texas are the three other first round bye teams. First Round Games: BYU (still assumed B12 champ) plays at Ohio State Alabama @ Norte Dame Georgia @ Penn State Ole Miss @ Indiana Love that idea that the SEC teams have to travel to frigid and cold locations for their first round games.

The former UNLV quarterback will be making his first start against Nebraska next week.
-
Surprised there isn't a game thread on this. I think Oregon State might pull off an upset. Oregon looks mediocre this year

Ex CSU player goes off for 41 points helping unrated Wisconsin beat #9 Arizona. He made 21-22 FTs. I’ll bet the Rams wish they had that kid back.

The USC football program has been fined $50,000 and placed on a one-year probation due to a violation of "on- and off-field coaching activities," the NCAA announced Tuesday. After conducting an investigation, the NCAA found that USC exceeded the permissible number of countable coaches by six during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. "Eight analysts for the football program engaged in on- and off-field coaching activities during spring 2022, fall 2022 and spring 2023, resulting in the football program exceeding the permissible number of countable coaches by six for two academic years," the NCAA said in its release. "As a result of the violations, the parties also agreed that football head coach Lincoln Riley violated head coach responsibility rules." The NCAA said that because some of the violations occurred before rule changes in January 2023 that shifted head coach responsibilities from a rebuttable presumption to an automatic attachment, Riley -- who was hired by USC in November 2021 -- will not be suspended. "Because Riley was not personally involved in the violations and demonstrated that he promoted an atmosphere of compliance and monitored his staff, Riley rebutted his presumed responsibility for the violations occurring before the rules change," the NCAA said. "For the same reasons, the parties also agreed that a suspension penalty for Riley was not appropriate." Aside from a year of probation and the $50,000 fine, the NCAA Committee on Infractions approved further penalties. USC will be restricted from having the special teams analyst in practice and film review for six consecutive days during two weeks of the 2024-25 season. A restriction for the remaining analysts from practice and film review for six consecutive days during four weeks of the 2024-25 season will also be imposed and the school will self-impose a reduction in countable athletically related activities for the football program by 24 hours during the 2023-24 season. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/42350514/usc-fined-put-probation-2022-2023-coaching-infractions

Nebraska has changed offensive coordinators after a bye week. I have seen plenty of schools make changes like this in the middle of the season, but this is the first time I have seen a school bring in a new coach off the street in the middle of the season to be the OC. Dana Holgerson, former head coach at Houston and West Virginia, will be bringing in his version of the Air Raid for the last three games.

Starting to look like the West Coast schools are taking over the Olympic Sports in their new conference. The LA schools take the top 2 spots in the women's soccer tournament. Not leaving out men's soccer, UW and UCLA aren't doing too bad with their last match to play on Sunday for the tiebreaker. Even though Wisconsin won the men's XC Championship, Washington placed 2nd and Oregon 3rd. Oregon took the women's title and Washington placed 2nd.

@dtd @orange https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401628536/oregon-michigan ESPN matchup predictor has Oregon winning this one. But I think it will be close.

@dtd @Orange This the biggest game ever to be played at Autzen - think so. weather looks good Saturday Oct. 12 2 Ohio State BuckeyesAutzen Stadium, Eugene, OR 7:30pm ETNBC/Peacock

Edit: I have replaced the word midmajor with "G5" although I am not sure that's the right term any more. UConn and UMass are considered G5; Notre Dame, Wazzu and Oregon State are P5 (for now). If anyone wants to do this for the rest of the Big 12 (and/or the MWC), I'd love to see it.

The Big Ten has had nine conference games featuring a pair of schools located at least two time zones apart. The visiting team is 1-8 in those nine games ! USC has lost in two of these games ! Army & Navy are both 5-0 - for the first time since 1945 (when they had a recruiting advantage) (Source: From at article in The Athletic)

FOX October 4 , 2024 I think this is a trap game for Oregon. They will have a tough one in Eugene. (edited) @dtd
