Coach Prime hype hasn't gone away just yet. I'm thinking CU @ CSU will be nationwide TV as well.

A.J. Dybantsa, a 6-foot-9 wing player who is the No. 1 prospect in high school basketball and the projected No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA draft, announced his commitment to BYU on Tuesday morning. Dybantsa, who made his announcement on ESPN's "First Take," chose the Cougars over Alabama, North Carolina and Kansas. He becomes the first five-star recruit to commit to BYU since the ESPN recruiting database began in 2007. https://www.espn.com/recruiting/basketball/story/_/id/42892244/dybantsa-projected-top-pick-26-nba-draft-commits-byu

Just as placeholder and the Big 12 basketball schedule hasn't been announced yet but the SEC has the same number of conference games as the Big 12 and they just released theirs. 2024-25 SEC Men’s Basketball conference opponents announced - Southeastern Conference (secsports.com) What I think this means for CU basketball is that the round robin games would be Kansas, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State since the AZ and UT schools would probably do round robins with each other. That probably means the Texas schools will round robin each other and then Iowa State, UCF, UC, and WVU will round robin each other. This might be just for one year as the new Big 12 media rights deal kicks in next year and there could be 20 conference games (currently at 18). Buffaloes Add Danny Manning As An Assistant Coach - University of Colorado Athletics (cubuffs.com) This was a good hire for Tad Boyle as the Buffs move back into their old stomping grounds. Buffs could have three players drafted in next month's NBA Draft and it seems like the Buffs got some good & bigger bodies (necessity for the Big 12). I think the Buffs will hover near the middle of the pack in the Big 12.

Colorado and BYU both trailing. Colorado for the most part unable to stop KU though Jayhawks have choked in the red zone. Hopefully I dont curse a good thing by posting.

Boise State moves ahead of BYU and into CFP bye territory - ESPN Boise State has that fourth bye game. Oregon, Miami, and Texas are the three other first round bye teams. First Round Games: BYU (still assumed B12 champ) plays at Ohio State Alabama @ Norte Dame Georgia @ Penn State Ole Miss @ Indiana Love that idea that the SEC teams have to travel to frigid and cold locations for their first round games.

On ESPN+. Just started and should be a good game. I love watching the women play. Anything is better that all of the BS threads about everything except actually playing a game. Go Lady Rebels.

AD publicly crying about the refs saying they don't want to be in the Big 12. What a bunch of bitches

I always enjoy watching this game. I wish Rising was healthy but still should be a good one.

We will crown two champions let me know if you have any questions

I see that MWC thread and I think we need one for the Big 12 too. I can edit this list in case I have the names wrong and bolded would be returning experience from last season. Arizona: Noah Fifita. He could have gone to Seattle but opted to stay in Tucson and see if he can keep the momentum going for the Wildcats and shorten the wait for basketball season. Arizona State: Trent Bourget. Sun Devils have Sam Leavitt from Michigan State but they lost some names to the portal. Jeff Sims transfers in from Nebraska but he has fumbling problems so I'd write him off. The coaching talent is indeed there to develop the QBs. Bourget is not guaranteed to win the job in preseason camp though. Baylor: Dequan Finn is a transfer from Toldeo with a few years of starting experience but he got wheels. How well he plays could impact the future of the program since the HC is on the hot seat. BYU: Gerry Bohanon...got his name off of CFN and they said he can run but passing isn't as good as Solvis. Utenation mentioned Jake Retzlaff and he was the #1 JUCO QB in the recruiting rankings. Central Florida: KJ Jefferson was a big (literally) get from Arkansas via the portal and with that starting experience in the SEC, could he lead UCF to Jerry World with that soft looking B12 schedule? Cincinnati: Brendan Sorsby comes in from Indiana and the last Indiana transfer QB led Washington to the CFP championship QB so you can understand Bearcats hoping for something good in their second year of the B12. Is expected to have a good running game this fall to take the pressure off. I don't have a high opinion of the Bearcats this year but their schedule appears to show a potential 4-0 start so who knows? Colorado: Shedeur Sanders...you know him as the guy who flashes his luxury watch when CU is about to win the game. CU would be screwed if SS2 goes down with an injury but he has bulked up in the offseason plus he should be improved after going through the difficult Pac-12 last season. I have no clue who the RB will be but the OL showed signs of improvement in the spring. Houston: Donovan Smith. Houston really is flying under the radar because of a new head coach who is a good one in Willie Fritz. I'm not expecting Houston to surprise some people this year as Houston is still adjusting to the Big 12 but I wouldn't overlook Smith here. Iowa State: Rocco Bechet helped the Cyclones overcome the loss of their previous starting QB to gambling and he had a good first season so how much will he build off that? ISU might be a darkhorse for the B12 CCG so Bechet just needs to keep playing well like he did last season. Kansas: Jalon Daniels. Good player coming back but can he stay healthy? They will miss their former backup QB and need to find a new one. If he goes down, KU fans will go into basketball mode. Kansas State: Will Howard is off to Ohio State and KSU fans are excited about Avery Johnson. Wildcats have several weapons at RB to help Johnson out and KSU is one of those expected favorites for the B12 title. Oklahoma State: Alan Bowman is back and it's great to have a running mate in Ollie Gordon II. Cowboys are getting overlooked all preseason long. TCU: Josh Hoover is back for the Froggies but he got to win some games. Perhaps there is someone waiting in the wings? I share Utenation's opinion that the TCU HC isn't that good of a coach so if Hoover bombs, maybe a coaching change in Ft. Worth? Texas Tech: Behren Morton. Not familiar with him but the Red Raiders return their bruising RB so that should help Morton out. Utah: Cameron Rising is back for like an eighth year but the Utes usually have a strong running game to take the pressure off. Without him, would Utah be one of the preaseason favorites for the B12 title? Probably not. West Virigina: Garrett Greene. The 'Eers do have a backup QB ready in Nicco Marichol and that might mean the difference between another winning season and sitting at home in the postseason...and even a trip to Arlington for the B12 CCG. Underrated team going into the season because of their difficult OOC schedule.

Following a 13-7 loss to TCU in which the Utes’ offense scored just once in 14 drives, Utah offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig has stepped down from his position. Utah coach Kyle Whittingham announced the news in a statement on Sunday night. “Assistant coach Andy Ludwig has made the decision to step down from his position with Utah Football,” Whittingham said. “Andy is the consummate professional and we want to thank him for his complete dedication to our program during his 10 total seasons with us. Coach Ludwig has been instrumental to our success here at Utah and personally, I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Andy as both a coach and a person. We wish him nothing but the best in all of his future endeavors.” For the second straight year without Cam Rising under center, Utah’s offense has been pedestrian, ranking No. 72 in total offense (385.9 yards per game), No. 71 in passing offense (226.3 yards per game), and No. 95 in scoring offense (24 points per game). The red-zone struggles have been well documented, with Utah scoring on just 80.8% of its trips inside the 20-yard line and finding the end zone just 46.2% of the time, which ranks No. 120 in FBS. Things reached a breaking point on Saturday night after Utah gained just 267 yards, never reached the red zone, and either punted or turned the ball over on downs on 13 of their 14 drives. Postgame, Whittingham said that he would “look at everything really hard in the next 48 hours and make some tough decisions.” Less than 24 hours after saying that, Whittingham announced that Ludwig would be stepping down. Mike Bajakian will be Utah’s interim offensive coordinator the rest of the season. Bajakian is in his first year with the program as an offensive analyst and has worked with the quarterbacks this season. Prior to Utah, Bajakian served as the offensive coordinator for Northwestern from 2020-2023 and also had a stint as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterbacks coach from 2015-2018. https://www.deseret.com/sports/2024/10/20/andy-ludwig-steps-down-as-utahs-offensive-coordinator/

OSU at BYU-9.5 BYU starts us off tonight. The easy choice is BYU at home but this might be a trap game if BYU is reading their own headlines. Unfortunately, I think BYU is just better and OSU is terrible. BYU should win comfortably. @NorCalCoug and @BYUcougfan looks like winter weather finally showed up in Utah. Maybe some rain and mid 40s. ASU at Cincy -4.5 I’ll take ASU to cover. Houston at Kansas -5.5 Meh. Don’t care. CU at AZ -2.5 No idea on this one. I guess I’ll take AZ at home. Baylor at TT-6.5 TT to cover. TCU at Utah-3.5 I’m thinking Utah has a nice bounce back game with pressure now off Utah on who is the starting QB. Utah by 7-10 at home in the cold. UCF at ISU-13.5 ISU rolls. KSU at WVU. KSU-3 Tight. Hard call on this one. WVU at home I guess.

Edit: I have replaced the word midmajor with "G5" although I am not sure that's the right term any more. UConn and UMass are considered G5; Notre Dame, Wazzu and Oregon State are P5 (for now). If anyone wants to do this for the rest of the Big 12 (and/or the MWC), I'd love to see it.
