Buffs look to start conference play with a 9-2 record (currently’8-2). One more win than I expected before the season. Seven B12 wins would result in an overall winning record of 16-15. If CU manages to get to .500 in B12 play, that will be an incredible accomplishment.

That r-FR walkon has probably barely had any reps in practice this year. This is his chance to get his reps and get more immersed in the offense. He might be decent. Now's the time to find out.
Absolutely but Charles Johnson (back up to Darian Hagan) did play some mop up duty earlier in that season and the previous season so he was ready.
And speaking of reps, he’d (BSU r-Fr QB) probably have had scout team reps which is better than nothing but that is me guessing here.

My concern is that players who aren't as good as Hunter will start demanding to play both ways to boost their chances at awards, and coaches will let them do it to win recruiting battles and keep their jobs. The media has gotten so swept up in the novelty of a two-way player and ignored the potential consequences down the road.
I don’t think there will be many players as good as Travis Hunter for awhile. Last time I saw a good two way player besides Woodson at Michigan was an Oklahoma State player in the late 1990s or early 2000s. Name escapes me but those players are still very rare.
CU has three two-way players at the most and the other two are just not as elite athletically as Travis Hunter. One of those two did show some promise but that’s something to look forward to next year.

ASU’s Leavitt is one of the too early favorites for the 2025 Heisman.

Malachi Nelson in portal for BSU. Will hurt BSU offense UMO because Maddog won’t be looking to run much.
Boise’s backup QB now is a r-FR walkon from Nampa.
Why worry when he just needs to hand the ball to Jeanty? But yeah having a good backup QB ready to go is ideal. Reminds me of CU winning the Orange Bowl against Nate Dame (and the 1990 NC) with the backup QB.

I hope Hunter is the beginning of more two way players in college football.

You should see the Sac St. BB "arena".
High school comes to mind.
You should see what they are going to replace that with.

Since 1-2 were all but locked up, I was just hoping Gabriel finished ahead of Ward.
Duck Twitter is running with Mario’s comments about Ward being the best player he’s ever coached, turning it into a Ward vs Herbert argument, but my first thought was did Mario forget he coached Penei Sewell? Sewell’s the best player Mario ever coached, and very likely the best player he’ll ever coach.
Saw Sewell play for the Eagles recently…he’s good.
I don’t have a dog in that Duck Twitter space but Ward led a school that just moved up to FCS from D2 and did well for them and repeated that at WSU & Miami. Ward does warrant being the first QB taken in next spring’s NFL draft but he won’t have to deal with the NYC media since Shedeur is probably going to the Giants. I think I’d have taken Ward over Herbert too.

It was always going to be a big step up for either school in basketball but with the portal, it could just take a couple of seasons instead of four or five years.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if he does play for real. This is the same guy who picked Jackson State over FSU - he zigs when everyone else zags.
If he is serious about playing, he deserves props for that when anyone else in his position would sit out. I'm not going to dump on everything Hunter does just because the media gave him a couple more awards than he truly deserved.
Coach Prime already said that Hunter and his son will play in the Alamo Bowl. Hunter will be also well rested…those BYU kids might not know what hit them.I have said on this board that I’m not a fan of Coach Prime’s sons but after watching this trio for two seasons, Hunter is a very likable person and has his head screwed on right. He was living in a hotel with his family and is doing everything he can to have a successful life. He already bought his mother a nice five room home in Savanah, GA with his NIL earnings.
Better that Hunter won the Heisman instead of Shedeur Sanders. Next season is going to be so fresh (and maybe painful) as a CU fan.

Well, congrats to Hunter and Colorado fans. If Jeanty wasn't in the field, I wouldn't have a problem with Hunter winning, but Jeanty was simply more deserving. The public got it right, the media (as they do with most things) got it wrong.
At least Jeanty won the Maxwell and the Doak Walker, which is better than a lot of other high-profile Heisman snubs could say, and we can still win the natty. Still plenty to be proud of.
Hey you got the playoffs. CU missed out on a chance to play for a chance to get into the CFP thanks to a four way tie in the Big 12.Best of luck in the playoffs. I hope you win it all so those SEC homers can stuff it.

#19 is retired by CU but it took a long time for that to happen. Going to be curious to see what happens to #12.

Jeanty won Far West by just three votes. Overall a close one.
The run to the Heisman doesn’t always start the same year it occurs. Sometimes it starts once you set foot on campus or the previous season. Hunter was hyped even before he signed with Jackson State and Coach Prime. Just look at his high school numbers at the top classification of Georgia…just wow.
CU does have another player or two that might play both ways but they do not have the elite athleticism that Hunter has. One of those two has seen some game time this season. He’s no Hunter.

Not the team you follow, but you should watch the Jay Norvell press conference from Monday. Pretty enlightening about how some of these deals go down and kids get screwed over. It's downright sad and corrupt.
All of this while the US Congress hasn't done jack to address the issue.

So the semifinals would be Montana State and Dakota schools?

Already in the portal. I do assume that there was an offer involved since he's a rsFrosh that would have been the likely starter next year. Legit offer? Who knows.
Hope he has a honest agent...been hearing stories about how agents charge more percentagewise than NFL agents.

As for future NFL careers, I think Jeanty will have the better & longer career. All those plays that Hunter has played is just more mileage on his body.

Jamari Persons made an unbelievable one handed catch with his feet about 3 feet off of the ground in the end zone for CSU against USU. It led to a massive fourth quarter comeback that gave CSU the game.
That was a Heisman worthy play!
Jamari Persons for Heisman.
Think Persons will stay at CSU if someone offers him more money thanks to that Heisman worthy play.

Woodson was easily the best defensive player in the nation that season. A true lockdown corner who nobody wanted to throw against and a game changer. He was by far the best player on his team and a major factor in Michigan winning a national championship.
Woodson then went onto the NFL, where he was drafted 4th overall and became rookie player of the year … he had an amazing 18-year pro career.
Watched a lot of Michigan games that year...Woodson was great as a DB and made some plays but Hunter is just on a higher level overall. Don't think CU will see another player like that for a long time if not in my lifetime.

And just in case the Hunter Haters aren't already triggered enough, ESPN comes thru with this nice front page write up...
Travis Hunter's rise to Heisman Trophy favorite
Hunter has been different from nearly everyone else at each stop of his football career. It's why the 21-year-old receiver and cornerback -- a rare two-way player -- is a massive betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday and might be a top-five pick in next year's NFL draft.
This season, Hunter has 92 receptions for 1,152 yards with 14 touchdowns (No. 2 in the FBS) on offense, while allowing just 22 catches, 1 touchdown and 6 first downs on defense. He logged 1,356 snaps on offense and defense in 12 games -- 434 more than any other FBS player.
I can only imagine how much more dangerous Hunter would be if he only played offense.
