You haven't dug deep enough into the details. I would start by using births per year. Around 3.5 mil. Throw in a conservative number for lost pregnancies and round up a half mil (prob way too high but I like round numbers) per year. So 100/4,000,000. Or 1 in every 40,000.
Insignificant? Maybe. Until you do dig into the details. How many of that 40k never had a problem significant enough to even go the the ER? Whittle that number down. Of the ones that did, how many ERs are turning away pregnant women? My guess is very few. So most of the 40k do not face this situation of being turned away. Whittle it down again. Show me the ratio from the ERs those women were turned away from. Then apply that to all ERs and it's not a pretty picture.
